To address the growing market segment of digital consumer space, Infosys Technologies has developed a new platform known as “Digital Smart Home Gateway”, powered by the Intel Atom processor E600 series, formerly codenamed “Tunnel Creek”, which links multiple home devices, enabling consumers to mange the home appliances sitting at office using a Wi-Fi console, smartphone or remotely via the Web.

Subhash Dhar, senior vice president, head of communications, media and entertainment business unit at Infosys said, “As we witness the rise of usage of phone and other personal digital devices in India, we can see a trend of consumers using more digital products.”

He added, “In the history of Information Technology (IT), worldwide spend on consumer IT is more than corporate IT spend and it is growing at a higher rate than we expected. Looking at the growth, it is quite evident that the whole IT industry is focused on the growing consumers space.”

He further added, with the penetration of next-generation broadband services, consumers are now more connected to the Internet for watching live movies, downloading applications according to their requirements, enabling them to connect digitally using different device.

As we look into this growing market, we identified that, there are more number of devices in the home need to be digitized and we are planning to tap those areas by providing Digital Smart solution in the areas of power, energy consumption, healthcare system and security systems, added Dhar.

Sanat Rao, marketing director for emerging markets, embedded and communications group at Intel said, "The embedded Intel Atom platform creates an optimal solution with a range of connectivity options and significant processing power to deliver the breadth of applications with high performance and rich user experience."

The pre-configured solution can be built into customised energy management devices by OEMs and service providers, allowing them to introduce new products to consumers and generate revenues by offering value-added services.

Digital Smart Home Solution

The new solution was introduced with a vision of building ecosystems for digital convergence for home users across the globe. This solution can be a single point solution which can act as a gateway/controller for various in home devices and connect the household to its ecosystems.

This solution comes with built-in wireless technologies like Zigbee, Bluetooth and WiFi and runs on new Linux-based operating system Meego.
