SAN FRANCISCO, USA: Even as Facebook has become the synonym for social networking, a new service was introduced on Monday that enables users to enjoy live video chat with their Facebook friends.

The startup, named SocialEyes, lets people have one-on-one or group video chats with friends from hot online community Facebook, according to an AFP report.

A test version of SocialEyes made its debut in California at a demo conference for technology startups and was made available online at socialeyes.com or apps.facebook.com/socialeyes, it said.

Founded by Rob Glaser and Rob Williams, who earlier worked as executives at RealNetworks, SocialEyes is described as a more civilized version of Chatroulette, the controversial service that randomly connects Webcam users who don’t know one another.

Here, at SocialEyes, those who log in using Facebook Connect using their Facebook ID, can see their Facebook friends and have live video chats with them — with one or several at the same time. If someone is not online, you can even leave a video message.

Some analysts are of the opinion that SocialEyes has the potential to take social networking to a whole new level by connecting you face-to-face with people.

Since this enables you to see the face of the user on the other end, you can save being taken for a ride, which has become part of the online social networking.

“It's a way to connect to friends, in real time, on your social graph,” says Rob Glaser. According to him, this is a richer way to connect.

Now, they are also planning to build a mobile app so that SocialEyes will reach a wider circle
