"TekTrak works in real time to find missing phones and secure private data. After misplacing a phone, a user can quickly log in to the TekTrak web site, and view the phone's exact location on a street map, lock the phone, and wipe it if necessary," said Arik Waldman, CEO of TekTrak.

A unique and beneficial feature of our app is that if the phone is off or out of battery, TekTrak can pinpoint its last known location, added Waldman.

He further added that each year, 20-30 per cent of phones are lost, and today losing your phone or tablet means losing much more than just the device. This service is a low-cost way for all phone users to protect themselves.

When installed on a phone, TekTrak can also be used to find a missing person in emergency situations. Using a unique automatic location history update feature, a concerned parent can simply log onto the TekTrak website and find the location, or recent locations, of a child or teen with a TekTrak-enabled Android, added the release.

"Android will account for almost half of the smartphone market by the end of 2012. TekTrak brings a whole new level of protection to these valuable devices and their owners," said Waldman. "Along with our iOS protection, we are bringing TekTrak to the majority of smartphone users."

According to the release, the free version of TekTrak Lite gives users two free uses of the service, with access to all features, including location tracking, location history and a remote ring function — which can make the phone ring even if it’s in silent mode.

Other key features include remote locking and unlocking of the phone, remote data wipe (either partial wipe, or a full factory restore) and "MultiLock,” which prevents unauthorized users from deleting TekTrak.

The service also allows users to turn on WiFi remotely for added search ability and accuracy. Users can earn additional free uses by sharing the app with a friend.
