Now, Aadhaar mandatory for land deals in Jharkhand

RANCHI, INDIA: To ensure transparency in the sale or purchase of land and prevention of registering the same land more than once Aadhaar will be mandatory as proof during land deals in Jharkhand from January 1, next year, as per an official release issued on Tuesday.

Till the next year, Aadhaar or other relevant documents could be used for land registration but from January 1, 2014, only Aadhaar would be considered as a proof in land deals.

Not only the buyers and sellers are bound to have Aadhaar, even witnesses are also required to produce their Aadhaar cards. According to the official release, "The land registration department has been asked to follow the directive."

The deadline for Aadhaar enrolment in the state of Jharkhand has been set on December 2013.
