Novell launches open enterprise server, Desktop 9 in India

Bangalore: Onward Novell Software (I) Pvt. Ltd has announced the launch of its next generation networking suite Novell open enterprise server and a complete desktop Linux solution Novell Linux desktop in India.

Novell open enterprise server is a suite of services that combines NetWare and SUSE LINUX enterprise server to deliver file, print, management, collaboration and application services. Open enterprise server has incorporated the best from leading commercial and open source networking platforms along with integrated management tools, identity-based services and Novell’s global support ecosystem to meet enterprise-class computing needs, a company release said.

Novell Linux Desktop 9, powered by SUSE LINUX, comes with ready to use end-user operating system, office applications and productivity tools that support users with capabilities they are used to. This provides additional savings as there is no need to purchase an operating system license and pay for expensive office applications.

Novell Open enterprise server includes, a suite of core networking services, including directory, identity management, file, print and provisioning services, uniform, integrated management tools, Novell storage services to support large-scale, distributed rich file access, Novell cluster services which offers enhanced scalability and provides a foundation for business continuity services and two operating systems with complete code set for NetWare and SUSE LINUX enterprise server.

Novell Linux desktop comes with the Novell edition of, providing a word processor, spreadsheet and presentation suite compatible with Microsoft Office file formats, Mozilla Firefox browser, Novell Evolution, the collaboration client for Linux and integration with Novell ZENworks Linux Management, allowing administrators to easily deploy, configure and manage Linux desktops from a central location, providing enterprise-level IT control over software deployment, remote management, and updates and patches across the entire organization.
