ScheMax is a GUI-based administration tool that gives organizations the power and flexibility to easily customize, administer and extend NDS eDirectory to meet their special needs, according to a release. The NetConsole products are fully integrated across all Novell Net services software in order to make management and administration as easy as possible. ScheMax gives organizations a specialized tool to customize and administer NDS eDirectory and NDS eDirectory Corporate Edition across multiple platforms including Windows 2000, NT, Solaris and Linux. It also allows administrators for the first time to extend NDS eDirectory schema on the fly, such as adding unique classes and attributes to the directory tree. A component of Novell's Net Management Services, ScheMax and the NetConsole products are providing the administration tools for the infrastructure that powers One net.

"We are offering ScheMax as a free download in order to continue adding value to our product line and allow customers to optimize their existing directory investments," said Dave Shirk, senior vice president of product management at Novell. "Novell is committed to providing customers with products that broaden their ability to administer diverse Net services software across heterogeneous environments. Through NetConsole, we are providing customers with the option to administer products through their choice of browser-based or client-to-server tools."

ScheMax delivers a GUI that makes it possible to easily customize NDS eDirectory. For example, based on user identity information stored in NDS eDirectory, network administrators and IT managers can determine who has access to view and configure customized directory data -preserving the security and integrity of the data. Rights and tools can be granted to individual users to update their information directly, reducing data entry time. ScheMax also make it possible to configure software using the familiar NW Admin Utility, requiring no programming experience and eliminating the need to learn a new interface.
