Google has officially rolled out Android Nougat 7.1.1 update for several nexus devices along with Google Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C. With the latest updated, Nexus devices will receive updated which were exclusively available for Google Pixel devices.

The latest update now brings Force Touch-style menus to app shortcuts. You can simply click and hold an app icon to execute an action, like setting your alarm or opening a fresh incognito tab in Chrome.

"When we launched Android Nougat, we were excited to deliver even more ways to make Android your own. Today we're rolling out Android 7.1.1, an update to Nougat that showcases more ways to express yourself, along with a handful of other sweet features and improvements to stability and performance. Android 7.1.1 brings many of the cool features of Pixel to everyone," wrote Agustin Fonts, Product Manager, Android in a blog post.

Google is also promoting gender equality. With the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update, Google has added gender counterparts for emoji characters that previously only had male or female representation. Moreover, Google's new set of emojis that launched with the Pixel phones will now be available to all compatible devices running Android Nougat.

Pixel owners will receive a raise-to-wake and double-tap feature, which will let users see their lock screen and notifications when the phone is picked up or tap with two fingers on a device’s display to see alerts.

Apart from emojis, Google is also adding support for GIF images directly from the keyboard on supported apps. Following the footsteps of Apple and popular chat clients on the web, Google is bringing fast access to reaction GIFs to Hangouts, Messenger and Allo.

This update also brings the December security patch that features fixes 40 vulnerabilities ranging from severe to moderate.

To those who are yet to receive the update, the final release will be rolled out over next several weeks wirelessly as an over-the-air (OTA) update.
