An easy way to check your susceptibly level w.r.t slammer is to verify if your machine is running any instances of either SQL Server or MSDE.
To verify for running instances of SQL Server or MSDE on Windows NT or XP:
Right click on the My Computer icon.
Select Manage option. The Computer Management dialog appears.
Select the Services option, which appears within Services and Applications.
A list of services appears on the right side of the dialog. Look for a service in this list, whose name starts with "MSSQL". The default instance of MSDE is typically called MSSQLSERVER. You need to install the latest updates for slammer if you have these files in the Services section in you Computer Manager.
