Gemalto has deployed ePassports to Norway since 2005, placing the country as a pioneer in nationwide deployments of biometric passports compliant with international standards.

“To date we have delivered several million ePassports to the field, with high levels of satisfaction from both citizens and travel authorities,” says Lars H. Boehler, Director of the National Police Computing and Material Service. “Gemalto is a reliable partner that we are happy to be working with for the coming years.”

The new ePassports and issuance solution feature the EAC (Extended Access Control - an International Civil Aviation Organization standard for second-generation ePassports) for increased protection of biometric and privacy sensitive data, as well as innovative security features in the polycarbonate data page.

Jacques Seneca, Executive Vice President, Security Business Unit, Gemalto, added in the press release “We are delighted with the renewal of this contract, which is the result of many years of strong collaboration between Gemalto and the Norwegian authorities. Norway is one of the earliest adopters of ePassports for nationwide deployment, and we will continue to work closely together to deliver increased protection for Norwegian citizens.”
