NEW DELHI: Bouyed by the growth of the BPO industry, Nortel Networks has decided to take some major initiatives to enable easier training programs for its partners. The company has appointed Chennai-based Ramco Systems as the authorized education partner to train its partners, who had to be sent abroad earlier for training. The initiative would mean all Nortel partners to be trained at the Ramco labs.

Ramco started imparting training for Nortel certification at its labs early this year–greatly reducing the time and cost required by the partners to get trained in Nortel’s technology, by cutting traveling time to Singapore or Australia, the other nearest available destination.

Thanks to Ramco, Nortel also managed to conduct at least 100 days of training for many people, as against the meager 15 who used to get trained till last year.

According to Nortel, Director for marketing and channels, Sanjay Joshi, "With the rapid growth of the financial and BPO sector and particularly the kind of uptime required in the BPO sector also called for a huge amount of trained manpower." This is also a pointer to that fact that the company, has made rapid inroads in the voice as well as data switch market in call centers.

Providing adequate training is a very important function of vendors as availability of follow-up maintenance and support for its products is equally important in consolidating its hold on marketshare.

Nortel Networks has 10 partners in India who are basically systems integrators and one distributor, which is Ingram Micro. Among its partners include Wipro, HCL Infosystems, 3D, GTL, Spanco and Apara.
