NEW DELHI: Nortel Networks and its employees worldwide are joining the global
effort to speed relief to the thousands of victims of the tragic earthquake in
Gujarat. The company has donated US $100,000 to the UNICEF India Relief Fund
through the Nortel Networks Foundation.
Nortel Networks has also formed an alliance with UNICEF to fast-track
employee contributions - via a dedicated Web site linked to a designated account
- to the UNICEF India Relief Fund. The Nortel Networks Foundation will match
employee contributions up to another US $100,000.
The funds will be used for providing medicines, medical supplies, water and
shelter. In addition, family survival kits will be made available, including
lifesaving supplies like cooking utensils, blankets, clothing, soaps, candles
and kerosene lanterns, oral rehydration salts to combat diarrhoea and chlorine
tablets to purify drinking water.
