Nortel donates US $100,000 to victims of Gujarat quake

NEW DELHI: Nortel Networks and its employees worldwide are joining the global

effort to speed relief to the thousands of victims of the tragic earthquake in

Gujarat. The company has donated US $100,000 to the UNICEF India Relief Fund

through the Nortel Networks Foundation.

Nortel Networks has also formed an alliance with UNICEF to fast-track

employee contributions - via a dedicated Web site linked to a designated account

- to the UNICEF India Relief Fund. The Nortel Networks Foundation will match

employee contributions up to another US $100,000.

The funds will be used for providing medicines, medical supplies, water and

shelter. In addition, family survival kits will be made available, including

lifesaving supplies like cooking utensils, blankets, clothing, soaps, candles

and kerosene lanterns, oral rehydration salts to combat diarrhoea and chlorine

tablets to purify drinking water.
