PUNE: TietoEnator Software Technologies Pvt Ltd, a supplier of IT solutions to the social welfare and healthcare sectors in the Nordic region, has established its offshore production site in India at Pune.

“TietoEnator's aim is to support healthcare by digitising healthcare services and promoting seamless treatment chains. Our overall goal is to increase synergies in our solution offering and we will invest significantly into product development capacity in India. This will be a major step towards internationalising TietoEnator's healthcare business," said Juhani Kaisanlahti, Senior Vice President of TietoEnator Healthcare and Welfare.

It may be mentioned here that TietoEnator has acquired the entire share capital in German ITB AG as well as its subsidiary companies ITB Benelux and ITB CS Pvt. Ltd in India. The company specialises in healthcare information systems. The acquisition will support TietoEnator's internationalisation strategy and strengthen the market position of ITB products in Europe as well as TietoEnator's product range and position as a healthcare information systems supplier.

The deal with ITB's 120 software developers in India also strengthens TietoEnator's approach to global sourcing.

Mark Cremer, managing director, TietoEnator said that the company was running a pilot for a hospital management system at the Jehangir Hospital in Pune. India is a viable and growing market and will help us to go to the rest of Asia as well, he said. According to him, Europe was a major market. The market for IT products in healthcare in Germany alone, amounts to 1 billion Euros.

Carl-Johan Lindfors, president, TE Public & Healthcare, said the Pune facility that currently has around 100 developers would increase to 300 within the next two years.” It is quite probably that more TE sectors will start outsourcing their operations to India. In such a case, the size of TE India could touch the 1000 mark in the long run.

TE has been heavily investing into the telecom sector and is the biggest R&D partner for Nokia and Sony/Ericcson in the mobile industry. Kaisanlahti did not rule out the possibility of outsourcing some of the telecom operations to Pune as well.
