Follow UsSAN JOSE, USA: The world's top handset maker Nokia broadened its patent battle against Apple on Friday to include the iPad, deepening the legal spat between the two smartphone rivals.
Following is a timeline of the legal battle between the two groups:
2007
June 29 - Apple starts sales of iPhone. Later that year licensing talks begin between the two companies.
2008
Spring - Nokia asks to pick Apple patents it wants to use as part of the settlement. Apple denies request.
2009
May - Nokia demands royalties roughly three times higher than in 2008, and to pick some Apple patents.
Sept - Nokia demands have dropped to level of late 2007. Apple sees them still highly excessive.
Oct. 22 -- Nokia filed a suit in the District Court of Delaware, saying Apple had infringed its patents.
Dec. 11 -- Apple countersued Nokia, accusing it of anti-competitive practices and patent breach.
Dec. 29 -- Nokia filed a complaint with the U.S. trade body ITC, seeking to ban Apple from importing iPhones and other products into the United States.
2010
Jan. 15 -- Apple filed its own ITC complaint, seeking to ban Nokia from importing infringing phones into the United States.
April 9 -- U.S. court in Delaware splits main court case into three different trials and to hold these in 2012.
May 7 -- Nokia filed a new complaint in the Federal District Court in the Western District of Wisconsin, alleging that Apple's iPhone and iPad 3G products infringe five important Nokia patents.
