Nokia selects Software Associates as tech partner

BANGALORE: The South African arm of Nokia Netwoks has chosen Software Associates, the Hyderabad-based infotech services company, as its technology partner.



Nokia Networks’ South African operations are headquartered in Johannesburg, providing mobile and fixed telecom networks in the region. Software Associates with its South African operations already in place would leverage on Nokia's global experience and technological resources. According to the agreement, Nokia and Software Associates will share information and know-how on emerging technologies including WAP.



Nokia’s new business development official Gavin Penkins said, "We are looking at system integrators and service providers who would partner with us in providing total solutions to customers. The entire success of WAP technology is based on the equipment manufacturer and the content provider. Nokia has taken the initiative to bring together connectivity, service and application providers to mutually reap the benefits from this growing market."



Software Associates managing director Harish Amilineni said, "Nokia would provide us with access to its WAP Server and WAP Toolkit, which is a specialized development environment to provide Internet services and content for mobile terminals." This announcement further strengthens Software Associates’ position as a technologically advanced company in the Internet applications development marketplace. Areas of focus would be to jointly develop and promote business-critical mobile Internet solutions and WAP applications for a broad range of services.
