Nokia plans more products on Symbian 3

BANGALORE, INDIA: Adding some light to the buzz about Symbian 3, Nokia announced its latest smartphone in India, Nokia N8 on Symbian 3. Nokia officials said the company is planning more products on Symbian 3. However, Nokia refused to divulge any specific details about the launch of the devices on MeeGo, though it is rumoured to be out in 2011.

Speaking at the launch of new smartphone Nokia N8, D.Shivakumar, vice president and managing director, Nokia India said, “Nokia works with three platforms namely MeeGo, Symbian and Series 40. MeeGo is built in collaboration with Intel for computing devices.”

Adding to it, V Ramnath, director- OperatorChannel-India SUM Sales, said, “The launch of N8 would be followed by other products on Symbian 3 such as Nokia C7, E7 and C6-01.

Loaded with 12MP camera, USB-on-the-Go, 720p HD video output and many more, the products will hit the stores starting October 13, 2010 at a price point of Rs 26,259. It is also available at three EMIs at zero per cent interest.

Shivakumar added, “Globally there are around 300 million units of smartphones, and in which, Nokia enjoys a leadership position with around 41 per cent of the market share.”

With N8, Nokia is delivering around 250 new experiences and features from a faster UI to visual multi-tasking. On the other hand, developers can easily create custom applications on Symbian 3 using the Qt framework.
