Kallasvuo took over as chief executive of the Finnish company in June last year, replacing Jorma Ollila, who is now non-executive chairman.

Nokia's board nomination committee also proposed that Kagermann be elected at a shareholders' meeting on May 3, along with Indian businesswoman Lalita D. Gupte.

Gupte is former joint managing director of India's ICICI Bank Ltd and currently chairs ICICI Venture Funds Management Co Ltd. She sits on the boards of Bharat Forge Ltd, Firstsource Solutions Ltd and Kirloskar Brothers Ltd.

In addition to his role at SAP, Kagermann is also on the supervisory board of Deutsche Bank AG and Munich Re.

If the three are elected, Nokia's board will have 11 members, as vice-chairman Paul Collins is retiring.
