SHANGHAI (China): Not a long time ago, Dell, a leading computer manufacturer announced that it would be shipping out a few models with Windows XP operating system, bowing to consumer demand.

Reportedly, users were not too happy with the all new Windows Vista and yearned for the old familiarity of XP. But, the world’s largest IT corporation, Hewlett-Packard (HP), is batting out for Vista.

According to Todd Bradley, executive vice president, Personal Systems Group, HP, the company has no plans to re-introduce XP. “So far we have received quite a favorable response for Vista and all our models will be available with the same. Windows Vista has been proven to work in the market and is liked by the users. I believe Dell is reacting to a small minority of users, who have asked for XP.”

The company though offered the enterprise users the option of going in for Windows XP. “And we are already offering workstations for Unix and Linux systems. Thus the user has quite a wide range to choose from,” Bradley added.

Ever since the launch of Vista, there have been small rumblings with users asking for XP and debating how the old OS compared with the new one. Microsoft, despite putting all its weight behind the Vista, it is interesting to note that the company will be discontinuing support for Windows XP from next year onwards.

So for now, if you want XP on your HP machine, you are best advised to load it yourself.
