BANGLAORE: Computers running pirated version of Windows XP may not be able to install Service Pack 2, said an online report.

The software, at the time of installation checks for a list of product Ids, if it traces a pirated one it does not install, informed Danny Beck, the Windows Product Manager for Microsoft Australia.

Reports say the pack is expected to be trimmed to about 80 megabytes by the time it is released. Release candidate 2 of the pack is expected to be out on May 26 and release to manufacturing/release to web is expected to be on July 21, said the report.

However, some reports say that in a bid to tune the service pack further, Microsoft may even put out a third release candidate before the pack goes out to users.
