Guidelines issued recently by the Ministry of Telecommunication suggest that the electromagnetic waves emanating from mobile phones can seriously damage the tissues of the users' brain.

The report recommends that children below 16 should be discouraged from using cell phones as the tissues of children are tender and are vulnerable to be more affected.

Mobile phones are kept closer to the ear during conversations, so close to the brain giving rise to fears that continuous use of mobile phone for longer duration may damage some brain tissues.

While advising people to use hands-free, the draft guidelines suggest measures like limited usage of mobile phones by kids, pregnant women and people suffering from heart ailments.

The guidelines say that mobile phones and radio terminals radiate Radio Frequency energy that heats up the tissues which can be harmful to human health.

The central government has asked service providers and cell phone makers to avoid promotional advertisements showing children and pregnant women using cell phones.

Ever since the usage of mobile phones has become rampant, studies have started pouring in pointing to the adverse effects of the usage of mobile phones.
