Nivio partners with AMD

CHENNAI, INDIA: Nivio, a startup provider of virtualization solutions enabling users to access their personal Windows desktops from any PC with a broadband connection, has partnered with AMD, global processing solutions provider.

Nivio said in a statement on Monday that this partnership would support its vision of virtual desktop access for a worldwide audience and AMD’s drive to extend Internet access to emerging markets.

AMD would invest an undisclosed sum in Nivio’s research and development program, Nivio said in a statement.

“Nivio’s commitment to launch in India, is definitely a draw for us and in return for our investment in R&D we also get to support a service that fits perfectly into our continued aim of extending the breadth of access to the Internet,” said Alok Ohrie, vice president and managing director, AMD India.

Sachin Duggal, CEO, Nivio, said, “The technology expertise this collaboration brings, will enable us to continue towards our aim of launching the service over the coming months. We’ve already received significant positive feedback following the private beta.”

The Nivio service has been in development for the past 18 months and is currently in private beta testing mode. It aims to evolve the computing experience by hosting a users Windows desktop, making it available through any Internet connected device.

The user can download the most up to date software for use anywhere at anytime without having to upgrade their PC and can even sync with their own desktop. The service is shortly set to launch in both the UK and India.
