This is the world’s first Windows-based online desktop service, and enables customers to access personal desktop from any device connected to the internet.

The online desktop offers the ability to rent original and updated software on a rental (pay-as-you-go) basis, on Windows, Mac and other platforms to consumers, prosumers and small businesses, liberating users from the traditional constraints of computing.

With a free trial offer for one month, the student version will cost less than Rs 200 and will give access to Windows and MS Office on any platform. Nivio has been doing pilots with Airtel and SpectraNet. The company has already partnered with over 70 system integrators (SIs) and value added resellers (VARs), and is looking at more as their key target will be small business in Tier 2 and 3 towns.

They already have over 100 business and utility applications for its subscribers, however, this number is likely to go upto 5,000 in the next 14 months, informed Duggal. Nivio (a Sanskrit word, which means 'all encompassing'), besides offering their service directly, are also likely to partner with telecom operators including Airtel and Videocon, where the service bill to customer will be part of the regular phone bill.

"I believe that the world of computing is changing. Users want a simple and hassle free experience. Nivio is the result of my dream of a desktop that was anywhere and nowhere; that was stress-free and fault-proof," says Duggal.

Headquartered in Palo Alto, Silicon Valley and headed by Indian-origin UK national Duggal, Nivio was founded in 2004 by Duggal and Saurabh Pradeep Dhoot (of Videocon). The company launched its US products at MacWorld in Jaunuary this year and opened its registrations for European customers at Mobile World Congress in February, and has already got over 6,000 users.

The company recently got funding of $21 million from AEC Partners and Videocon Group.
