TOKYO, JAPAN: Nintendo Co Ltd's Wii game console outsold Sony Corp's PS3 by the ratio of 3 to 1 in Japan in August, but Nintendo's lead has become smaller over recent months, industry data showed on Monday.

Nintendo sold 245,653 units of the Wii in the four weeks ending Aug. 26, compared with 81,541 units of PlayStation 3 sold by Sony, game magazine publisher Enterbrain said.

The ratio was more than 4 to 1 in favour of the Wii in July and 6 to 1 in June.
