NEW DELHI: NIIT has launched a four year Bachelors in Science Information Security Systems (BS ISS) course. The degree will be awarded in association with US-based ITT Educational Services. Under this module, students who have completed the DNIIT program will have the option of opting for an additional two years of training for the four-year BS ISS degree.

The course comes at a total fee of Rs 1.85 lakh, comprising Rs 60,000 for the DNIIT curriculum and Rs 1.25 lakh for the last two years. Entry level qualifications for the DNIIT is a basic 10+2. NIIT COO P Rajendran, informed that direct entry at the third year of the graduation program is also on the cards, but not immediately. To be available in the four metros to begin with, the program will also be launched in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal.

The company chairman Rajendra Pawar, said, "The slump in the IT training market, witnessed in the last fiscal, will not be as bad the present year. In sync with ITT’s sessions, there would be admissions to the program four times a year. The initial numbers we are looking at, is say 300 to 400 students, a base of 2500 students in all, which is not ambitious at all by NIIT standards. The situation will be clearer after September end."

It is interesting to note that though the much-cliched cautious-optimism is the tone, a simple calculation of Rs 1.85 lakh per student for 2500 students, fetches the company a whopping revenue of Rs 46.25 crore from the course, alone. The BS ISS program will be delivered in India through NIIT’s learning centers in the first and second year followed by online delivery by ITT Technical Institute at select NIIT centers in the third and fourth year. The students have the option of going to US for completing the program if they wish to, but Rajendran elaborated that a trip abroad would mean incurring additional expenses of Rs 15 lakh plus.
