For many enterprises, AI has already moved beyond experimentation. According to OpenAI, three out of four enterprise workers say AI has helped them complete tasks they previously could not. Yet despite this progress, most organisations are still struggling to convert scattered AI pilots into systems that deliver consistent, business-wide impact.
OpenAI’s newly introduced Frontier platform is designed to address that gap. Rather than focusing on smarter models alone, Frontier targets the harder enterprise problem: how AI agents are built, deployed, governed, and trusted at scale.
Enterprises today are already weighed down by fragmented data platforms, cloud environments, and governance models. AI has amplified those fractures. Agents are being deployed across departments, but each operates with limited context, narrow permissions, and little awareness of how work actually gets done elsewhere in the organisation.

OpenAI says Frontier has already been piloted or adopted by large organisations including HP, Intuit, Oracle, State Farm, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and Uber, with existing customers such as BBVA, Cisco, and T-Mobile testing the approach on complex AI deployments.
At State Farm, the focus has been on equipping thousands of agents and employees with AI systems that integrate directly into how they serve customers.

These early examples suggest Frontier is being positioned not as a developer platform alone, but as an enterprise operating layer for AI work.
Shared Context As A Competitive Advantage
A recurring reason agent deployments fail is lack of context. Data lives across warehouses, CRMs, ticketing systems, and internal tools, while permissions and workflows remain siloed.
Frontier attempts to solve this by acting as a semantic layer that connects business systems and gives AI agents a shared understanding of how information flows, where decisions happen, and what outcomes matter. This enables agents to reason across systems instead of operating as isolated utilities.
With that context in place, agents can plan, act, and execute tasks such as analysing files, running code, working across applications, and responding to real-world changes, while building memory that improves performance over time.
A consistent theme in enterprise AI adoption is that demos rarely translate into reliable production systems. Frontier directly addresses this by embedding evaluation and optimisation into everyday agent work.
