Government clears way for DTH

NEW DELHI: In a landmark move the government has cleared the way for Direct

To home (DTH), freeing the viewers from the clutches of cable operators.

Announcing the DTH guidelines, information minister Sushma Swaraj said that the

ban on the reception and distribution of television signals on Ku band now stood

withdrawn.



As a result of this announcement, the subscribers will now be able to access
satellite channels without the intervention of the cable operators. According to

the guidelines issued by the ministry, "DTH refers to distribution of

multi-channel TV programmes on Ku Band by using a satellite system by providing

TV signals direct to subscriber’s premises without passing through an

intermediary such as a cable operator."



The guidelines also say that an applicant company will have to be Indian and
registered under the Indian company’s act, moreover the total foreign equity

holding whether FDI, NRI or FII in the applicant company should not exceed 49

per cent. -CNS

TCS in alliance to form eAsiaFinance



MUMBAI: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced a partnership with Sweden’s
Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken (SEB), New York's Ankar Capital Management and

Compass Venture to form eAsiaFinance. eAsiaFinance will provide wealth

management products and services for the banks and will use Internet as a

communication and delivery channel along with the bank’s existing distribution

networks. eAsiaFinance (eAF) will offer a range of wealth management products

and services to banks and financial institutions in thirteen Asian countries.

eAsiaFinance will partner with banks and financial institutions to focus on Asia’s

emerging "mass affluent" market to offer global and local securities

Wipro launches macromedia products

MUMBAI: The Enterprise Software Division of Wipro Infotech, has launched the

latest version of macromedia’s award winning product Dream Weaver Ultra Dev 4

in India. This product would provide web developers one single design

environment in which one can create, edit and deploy ASP/JSP and Cold Fusion

applications in addition to the regular HTML authoring which dream weaver

already provides. The latest version offers enhanced database support, live data

preview and better JSP and cold fusion support.



Wipro Infotech, Enterprise Software is the sole distributor for Macromedia in
the country - the San Francisco-based software giant, which specializes in

technology and services that enable developers and enterprises to create

Rolta revenues up by 42%



BANGALORE: Rolta India Ltd. has announced 42.6 per cent growth in annual
revenues, which touched Rs 254.52 crore during the financial year ending

December 31, 2000 against Rs 178.55 crore posted during the previous year.



According to a release, the cash profit generated by the company during the year
was Rs 121.49 crore, reflecting an operating margin of 66.9 per cent. The net

profit after depreciation and provision for taxation was Rs 90.86 crores,

netting a growth of 50.9 per cent over the net profit of Rs. 60.20 crores in the

last financial year. The earning per share rose by 34.5 per cent to Rs 14.80 as

compared to Rs 11 last year. The cash earning per share has increased to Rs.

19.80 as against Rs. 13.30 in the previous year. The company has announced a
