HP furthers its e-services strategy



NEW DELHI: Hewlett Packard India has set up a specialized division for
Complementary Products under the Enterprise Computing Sales Organization. The

new division will focus on procurement and reselling of third party products

that are complementary to existing line of products and services for its

enterprise customers. HP has a Complementary Products Division (HPCP) worldwide,

covering 47 countries representing over 300 third party products.

According to Ganesh Ayyar, President, HP India "The creation of HP

Complementary Products Division is a step further in HP's strategy of providing

total solutions to our enterprise customers". It fits well in our

e-services strategy under which HP hopes to partner with its customers in

transforming their business models to those that are in tune with the next step

of Internet paradigm."

HPCP in India would focus on specific areas such as Business Critical

Computing, E-services, Storage and Communication. HP already has partnerships

with leading organizations like Cisco and Oracle on a worldwide basis. In

addition, it will target companies like J&I, CNT and Nortel to focus on the

growth opportunities that India today offers as the 3rd largest market in Asia

Pacific, informed Graham, General Manager, HPCP.

Genesis Infotech to offer Enterprise Java Beans training



CHENNAI: Genesis Infotech Solutions Pvt Limited, a Chennai-based software
development, consulting and training company, enters high-end Java training

through an exclusive Authorized Training Partner tie-up with MageLang Institute,

USA. Besides the training center at Chennai, which was established a couple of

months ago, Genesis is planning to set up 15 more centers across the country by

the end of 2000 to train software professionals on Enterprise Java Beans (EJB).

The initial focus will be on Bangalore, Hyderabad and Coimbatore. "We

will probably be appointing quality franchisees, though it is still in the

planning stage and the investment details are yet to be worked out, " said

S. Mrithunjayan, Vice President, GI Solutions. Plans are on to open a training

center at Singapore as well, within the next six months.

The EJB course costing Rs 30,000 will be for a period of 12 weeks. Genesis,

claims Mrithunjayan, is the first to introduce this course in India. While

MageLang will provide the course materials, the faculty will be trained by

Genesis. "There will be web-based training provided as well under the

curriculum," said Mrithunjayan. Genesis is also involved in COM, DCOM and

COM+ training for companies like Siemens, Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS),

HCL etc.

The company plans to churn out 150-200 students in the first 6 months at

Chennai, with 10 students per batch. "That would generate a revenue of

close to Rs 50 lakh from training alone in Chennai," said the Vice

President. Genesis Infotech is also an e-commerce solution provider, and its

clients include Singapore Telecom and Singapore Pressholdings.

Intel processors give notebooks the speed of a desktop



BANGALORE: Intel Corporation today introduced mobile Pentium III processors
featuring Intel SpeedStep technology at 650 and 600 MHz. These CPUs will allow

notebook computers to function at desktop-class speeds, whether plugged in at

the office or operating in battery mode while on the go. These new processors

allow notebook manufacturers to incorporate 650 MHz of performance into a range

of notebook designs, including "thin and light" as well as full-size

mobile PCs.

"In the last three months, the mobile PC performance landscape has been

completely reshaped," said Avtar Saini, Director Intel South Asia.

"With the October introduction of the mobile Pentium III processors at 500

MHz, and now boosting that to 650 MHz with Intel SpeedStep technology, we have

nearly doubled the performance of mobile PC's. The performance v/s mobility

compromise is now obsolete." Intel also announced the availability of a

low-power mobile Pentium III processor running at 500 MHz (fixed frequency)

designed especially for the strict demands of even the smallest, lightest

"mini-notebooks. All these processors are now available in mobile PCs from

leading computer manufacturers.

Aptech builds India’s first industrial products portal



MUMBAI: The Mumbai-based Aptech Limited has built a comprehensive Industrial
Portal for IPF Online. Called industrialproductsfind.com, the portal will enable

the manufacturing Industry in India to access their counterparts globally to

offer their products and services for mutual benefit. According to a release,

the portal will bring together a gamut of industrial products, manufacturers,

buyers and sellers on a common B2B e-commerce platform.

Industrialproductsfind.com is owned by a Chennai-based start-up IPF Online

Limited, which was co-founded by IL&FS Venture Corporation Limited (IVC) and

RV Pandit, a noted economist and prime mover behind the monthly magazine,

Industrial Products Finder. Said C.K. Sharma, Vice President, Aptech Ltd, "Industrialproductsfind.com

promises to be the most definitive business portal for industrial products as it

leverages upon the high brand equity of IPF magazine, an industrial products

reckoner for 28 years. Our development approach took into account the business

needs of the audience, the need for creating virtual differentiators, and

creating a high value proposition for the buyer and seller."

The portal combines a database of over 10,000 products. Visitors will be able

to search for products and services through keywords and categories. In addition

to the core content, the site will have news, analyses and features relevant to

the vertical segments. The portal will also have a permanent virtual exhibition

of several companies and a "Find and Buy" facility that will enable

online negotiations leading to business being transacted virtually. The e-Trade

centre will enable manufacturers to put their entire offering on display,

similar to a real life exhibition.
