According to a press releae, Klomptek’s Track and Protect (TnP) security application was selected as a second-round finalist in the AT&T Open Call contest, and will be demonstrated live to its Developer Program judges to show how the largest wireless carrier in the U.S. can help its users easily monitor, lock and wipe data from lost or stolen mobile devices.

The release added that statistics vary worldwide, but as many as 30 percent of mobile devices in service in the U.S. -- about 70 million phones and tablets -- go missing each year. London police estimate roughly 10,000 phones are reported stolen in the city, while nearly 1,500 devices are left behind in Washington-Baltimore taxis each month. A report from the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association found that an average of one mobile phone is stolen every three minutes from seemingly safe places like cars, restaurants and clubs, and even home or the workplace.

“No one is immune to theft or loss, and mobile operator giants like AT&T see the reality of this daily,” says Robert Harmsen, CEO of Klomptek. “Helping subscribers to protect the devices upon which we’ve all become dependent is a benefit to carriers that want to provide a sense of security — it’s like pre-installing peace of mind.”
