Updates includes improved web services API, a key advancement that facilitates HotDocs-based, private-cloud development as well as integrations into vertical SaaS applications, said a press release.

Also included in the release are significant enhancements to other APIs, one to allow third-party customization of interviews generated by HotDocs Server and one for tracking all files that a HotDocs template depends on.

The release further added, these enhanced APIs offer substantially more flexibility to third-party system integrators.

"In the past, accessing HotDocs Server via the Web Services API required a sometimes-lengthy sequence of programming calls,” commented Lowell Stewart, the company’s Head of Software Development.

In addition to web services functionality, HotDocs 10.1 includes an enhanced programmer interface that facilitates modification of HotDocs Server interviews.

"In previous versions, customers who weren't happy with the standard HotDocs toolbar had limited options for customizing it. The enhanced 10.1 API allows customers to modify the toolbar with much more flexibility and without worrying about forward compatibility,” added Stewart.

Another improvement in 10.1 is the Dependency API, which allows developers to know which files a particular HotDocs template depends on.

For example, a template file might depend on one or more component files, other inserted template files, graphic files, etc. “If any of these collateral files is missing, a template wouldn’t work properly,” points out Stewart.

“And there are many circumstances under which a third-party developer may want to track dependency, the most obvious being in regard to document management systems.” Stewart added, “The Dependency API allows third-party developers to do the type of system integration work that could previously be performed only by HotDocs Corporation’s own engineering staff.”
