Netxen heading for 90 nano

PUNE, INDIA: Netxen, a US-based network solutions company, is gearing up to the 90 nanometer chip besides other new technologies aimed at reducing power consumption and increasing throughput.

This will mark a move from the current 130 nanometer, and the chip is expected to be out by late Q4 or early Q1.

Govind Kizhepat, company's founding CEO and chairman told that the next-generation networking products line up is due early next year. “This will see a lot of feature enhancements, power reduction and bandwidth improvement by about 50 per cent. We will also incorporate more security and server virtualisation features.” The new development work would be accompanied by a move from 10 gig to 20 gig next.

The company also plans for R&D alliances with academic institutions that might be the seed of future products. “We have done a project with IIT Mumbai and will be scouting for similar tie-ups. Work with them can span software feature enhancements,” he added.

As reported first by CyberMedia News earlier, Netxen has announced that it is hiring and on target to have 100 people in the next two years. It is also in talks for closing an acquisition in Pune in the area of systems software, Linux and Windows.

In March 2006, NetXen had introduced the Intelligent NICT, a programmable, multi-protocol networking solution designed for volume 10GbE markets. In the recent update, Dell started shipping its products in the last quarter and Netxen released Microsoft's acceleration technology "Chimney".
