HYDERABAD, INDIA: NetXcell Limited, a provider of application services to telecom operators, is looking to enhance its offerings with an attempt at the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) segment. The company’s engineers are still working on the USSD gateway even as talks are on with various operators.

The company’s director (operations), Debasis Chaterji, is excited about the prospects. “We are in constant talks with some companies to provide USSD. USSD is faster and at the same time you don’t intrude the users,’’ informed Chaterji.

Companies like Hyderabad-based Pyro Networks and Bharti Telesoft already provide USSD services.

NetXcell’s clientele include Airtel, Hutch, Idea, BSNL, Reliance and Aircel. Besides, the company also provides services to coporates like eSeva, Multi Commodity Exchange, Deloitte, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and OnMobile.

All set for 9595

NetXcell, which obtained the short code 9595 recently, would be utilizing it to provide WAP, infotainment and games services to operators. While Hutch has okayed the short code, Airtel clearance is expected soon.

Setting sight on the US

NetXcell, which bagged a deal from American firm Lifestyle Wireless earlier this month, is bullish on the US market. “Once the Lifestyle Wireless deal works out, there would be no looking back. The US market is more mature than the Indian one and also the revenue share is higher compared to the domestic market. So we see good prospects in the future,’’ said Chaterji.

NetXcell, however, is not looking to foray into other geographies. “We first want to be strong in a developed market before setting foot on other geographies,’’ said Chaterji.
