BOSTON, US: NetSuite Inc, a top maker of Web-based business software, named former Motorola Inc Chief Executive Edward Zander to its board of directors.

Zander, 62, ran Motorola from 2004 to 2007.

NetSuite sells Web-based programs that compete with traditional software sold by companies, including SAP AG, Oracle Corp, Intuit Inc and Sage Group Plc.

It was founded about a decade ago by Oracle CEO Larry Ellison as a developer of programs for small businesses and has been gradually moving up market, even targeting some Oracle customers.

Zander, who was president of Sun Microsystems Inc from 1998 to 2002, has experience developing and selling products to large corporations.

NetSuite CEO Zach Nelson worked for Zander at Sun.

Other NetSuite board members include Catherine Kinney, former President of the NYSE, and Billy Beane, general manager of the Oakland A's.
