HYDERABAD: NetPlane Network Technologies India is all set to ship its first
high-availability OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) for routing implementation.
OSPF is one of the key software elements used extensively within equipment
throughout the Internet to examine user's traffic and route it to the
appropriate destination.
"We plan to ship this OSPF solution by next month. We have already
shipped the distributed version of OSPF a year ago and this allows the software
to run on multiple processors to increase traffic throughput. As of now we have
four international vendors, developing equipment ranging from core routers,
cable modem termination systems, to the next generation optical switches,"
said, NetPlane vice president and general manager Deepak Shahane.
The OSPF implementation is a part of OPTIRoute, NetPlane's IP routing
software suite designed specifically for carrier class networking equipment and
completely designed by a team of 40 engineers based at Hyderabad.
With the introduction of OSPF, the company has moved IP routing to the next
level and taken a step further towards providing economical, carrier class
reliability to the internet. "Our solution saves carriers worldwide from
having to propagate changes throughout a network in the case of a hardware or
software failure by localizing the error recovery. The solution preserves
traffic flows through a network, enhancing the overall stability," he
explained.
OptiRoute with high-availability OSPF is architectured to work in both
centralized and highly distributed environments for all applications, from edge
to core. The architecture of the product ensures that the information in the
backup is current with what's in the primary, eliminating the need to wait for
OSPF re-stabilization. It also provides virtual routing support and offers
integration with MPLS/GMPLS functionality.
NetPlane Systems Inc, US - the protocol software business of MindSpeed
Technologies opened its Hyderabad subsidiary NetPlane India in mid-2000 to
design communications software products that are purchased by international
equipment vendors to reduce development time. The company has invested more than
Rs 8 crore towards the development of communication solutions.
"Our Hyderabad center has an importance of its own, it contributes to
more than 25 per cent of the revenues that are generated by the company
worldwide," he added. The company is now working on IS-IS (Intermediate
System to Intermediate system) technology and towards designing solutions for
VPNs. "We hope to release our next set of products by mid of this
year," Shahane informed.
