NetApps appoints new prez for BTC

BANGALORE: Network Appliance, Inc. the leader in advanced networked storage solutions for today's data-intensive enterprise, announced the appointment of Shekar G. Nair as President, Bangalore Technology Centre (BTC).






Commenting on the appointment, Dan Warmenhoven, CEO, Network Appliance, Inc. said, "I am very pleased that Shekar has joined NetApp as president of our Bangalore Technology Centre. In just a little over a year, the BTC has become a vital engineering and support facility for us serving customers throughout India and around the world. I am confident Shekar will continue to pioneer new solutions and support innovations that benefit the enterprises that rely on NetApp to store, move, and manage their data."



In his capacity as President, Shekar will be responsible for BTC operations for NetApp in India. Shekar brings with him over 17 years of experience in the IT industry, at companies including Alcatel, Xylan, Ascom-Timeplex, and Unisys. Shekar joined Xylan from its inception and was instrumental in Xylan's successful IPO in 1996 and its acquisition by Alcatel in 1998. He also co-founded Allegro Networks, a company focused on building scalable edge services platform for carrier edge networks.



Shekar, who has 4 patents to his name of which, two are yet to be granted, holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from California State University Northridge and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from REC, Trichy.



"Network Appliance has proven that we are a market leader in creating and delivering enterprise storage systems that meet our customers' broad and stringent data needs. I am very pleased to take on this new responsibility to advance NetApp solutions and expand our presence in India and Asia," said Shekar.



Network Appliance set up its Bangalore Technology Centre in May 2003. The increased investments in India complement worldwide engineering and customer services staffs in Europe, the United States, and Singapore, and reflect the ongoing global expansion of NetApp as an enterprise storage leader. Adding engineering resources in India has enabled global development in the areas of solution maintenance as well as leading edge development around the company's core intellectual properties. The NetApp NetCache appliances are developed by the technology center in Bangalore.
