NetApp releases B'lore 'baby'

BANGALORE: Sunnyvale, USA, headquartered Network Appliance (NetApp) has announced Netcache 6.0, its latest version of the product which was 100 percent designed and developed out of its Bangalore technology center. The latest version of this Internet access and security solution, helps guard against security threats, expands support for industry leading security partners, and provides enhanced web and application information.



NetApp India technology center President, Shekar Nair, said that the company had added on Internet access and streaming media to the new version of Netcache. According to him, "This would help us shift our focus from telecom space to the larger enterprise market since we see a lot of traction in this area". He added that the market for Internet access and streaming media presented a $three billion opportunity.



NetApp's Bangalore R&D center, which is the only one outside the US, employs around 60 engineers who work on the Netcache product and storage management solutions. In addition to the core development team, the company also has a global support team that services customers in APAC countries.



Nair also informed that the company has planned substantial investment into the Bangalore center and would double the headcount every year. NetApp would also move into a new 180,000 sq feet facility by July 2005.



The company is partnering with companies like Symantec, Web Sense and Trend Micro for both on box as well as off box solutions.
