NetApp to acquire Onaro

SUNNYVALE, USA: Storage firm NetApp today announced that it would acquire privately-held Onaro.

The deal enables NetApp to strengthen its storage and data management software portfolio. Boston-based Onaro software deploys its software in 32 per cent of Fortune 50 companies.

NetApp informed that it expects to close the acquisition in the first quarter of calendar year 2008, subject to closing conditions.

“This deal is not just a first for the industry, but also a new opportunity for customers to rethink their large-scale storage infrastructures—and gain extra confidence in the strength of modular systems to manage the biggest data challenges out there,” said Tom Georgens, executive vice president - Product Operations, NetApp.

“NetApp global channels and its powerful brand will accelerate Onaro’s ability to address the growing worldwide demand for our products. Our technologies and strategies are very complementary and will enable the combined companies to offer customers comprehensive storage management solutions for the data center,” said Doug McNary, president and CEO, Onaro.

With the acquisition NetApp also strengthens its storage area network portfolio. Onaro would complement NetApp’s solutions for virtualization and VMware.
