NEW DELHI: US based NeoMagic Corporation, developers of System-on-chip (SOC)
solutions for multimedia rich handheld Internet appliances has announced to open
its development center in Noida. This new initiative taken by the company will
enable the Indian center to play an important role in the global operations of
the company.
The new development center will be operational from February and will have
around 100 people working by the end of 2002. The company is investing around $
5 million in this center. The new center will be involved in developing the new
SOC product architecture according to different levels of integration and volume
as required by different OEM's.
Speaking on the occasion, Prakash Agarwal, President and CEO, NeoMagic said,
"As a step towards integrating the Indian company with our global
operations, NeoMagic will transfer its state-of-art and proprietary technology
to this new design center at Noida".
He added, "Our target markets are handheld devices with a high level of
multimedia functionality."
Neomagic's vision of the handheld market comprises of three segments which
include Personal Digital Assistants and web pads, personal entertainment devices
such as handheld gaming systems, portable music and video players and personal
communication devices like cellular phones and two-way messaging units.
The NeoMagic design center at Noida follows on the success achieved by
NeoMagic Semiconductor Pvt. Ltd., Kanpur, a 100 percent export oriented unit
which has seen the value of its exports almost double every year since its
establishment three years ago.
