Many students have been voicing their demand for increasing the number of NEET 2021 entrance exam on social media. They want the NEET 2021 exam to be held twice, similar to JEE Main 2021. Many have even reached out to Mr Ramesh Pokhriyal on Twitter and urged him to increase the same.
Taking the request in consideration, he has sent a proposal to the health ministry. In a conversation with India TV, Ramesh Pokhriyal said, “We are exploring all the possibilities of conducting the exam twice a year, keeping in view concerns of students.” Further, NTA even wrote to the Union Health Ministry to ask/suggest multiple sessions of NEET 2021. It said the move would lessen the immense stress and pressure on students. Thus, the Government has hinted that they are looking at the probability to conduct NEET 2021 twice this year.
Why has NTA asked the Health Ministry and not the Education Ministry?
HT had reported that the Health Ministry has considered the proposal. Yet, the actual decision on the mode of the examination rests with the National Medical Commission (NMC). This is because medical education comes under the purview of NMC and not NTA. NTA only conducts the examination. But the decision on the mode of the examination, pattern, syllabus, criteria, etc. falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
What should students expect?
As of now, there have been no more updates that the above mentioned. The exams will most likely happen in the May-June session. Considering that the CBSE 2021 dates fall in the same timeline, NEET 2021 may happen twice this year.
The medical entrance exam is one of the largest competitive examinations in the world. As many as 16 lakh candidates register every year for the examination. Thus, if the Ministry of Education can conduct the engineering entrance exam - JEE Main 2021 four times, many students have asked for more attempts at NEET. As per the latest development, students might just get their wish.
