NDPL joins IBM-led Intelligent Utility Network

BANGALORE,INDIA: IBM today announced that North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL), a Tata Power and Government of Delhi joint venture company, that distributes electricity across North and North Western part of Delhi, has joined the IBM-led global Intelligent Utility Network coalition of few selected global utilities.

The company statement said that it is aimed at accelerating the adoption of 'smart grid' technologies and business solutions through knowledge sharing.

It even intends to accelerate the adoption of the intelligent utility network that would transform the way power is delivered, managed and used by utilities around the world.

The coalition members would collaborate to enable rapid creation of solutions, use of open industry-based standards that drives the adoption of IUN technologies and solutions that would also facilitate sustainable economic growth and help in reducing the carbon footprint, said a press release.

“India’s energy demand is growing rapidly and it is imperative to ensure a robust distribution network by adopting the latest technologies to sustain this,” said Sunil Wadhwa, chief executive officer and executive director, NDPL.

“By being a part of this global coalition, NDPL would be engaging in a strategic effort to develop IUN solutions to enhance the efficiency and reliability of utility operations.”

He said NDPL is confident that the coalition will contribute actively in energy conservation through technological intervention and strategy thereby powering India’s growth efforts,” he added.

Reji Kumar Pillai, head – Energy and Utility industry, IBM India, said, “We are delighted to have NDPL join us in this strategic global coalition, which brings our shared vision to life.”

He added that this initiative would serve as a forum for exchanging ideas and best practices with the other strategic IUN partners.

The release stated that NDPL would become the first Indian utility to join the global Intelligent Utility Network (IUN) coalition convened by IBM. The IUN Coalition also includes utilities from the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific regions.
