NEW DELHI: Following the e-bandwagon that every government department is
riding these days, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has also announced its
ambitious plans to computerize all its secondary and higher secondary schools.
Currently, the department has been able to computerize 16 secondary and
senior secondary schools, including the five Navyug schools, out of 21 targeted
schools. The computerization process commenced in the NP Bengali Girls Senior
Secondary School, which has the distinction of having the first computer
laboratory amongst the NDMC schools.
The services of two leading application companies, JIVA and NIIT have been
availed. The firms will be responsible for providing the hardware and know-how
about the process. The supply of software, hardware and teaching staff will also
be the responsibility of these firms.
NDMC now plans to connect five primary schools with the network. For the
first time in Delhi, plan is being made to give computer facilities to the
primary schools. There is a proposal to strengthen already existing computer
labs by providing 10 more computers in the labs.
In one of these senior secondary schools at Sarojini Nagar, Computer Science
has been introduced as an elective subject, as per CBSE syllabus. In another 15
schools, computers are being used as teaching aids for English, Mathematics,
Science and Geography.
This is easily accepted and adapted by both teachers and pupils, exhibiting
all positive signs of welcome and affirmation, to the people behind for bringing
about computer literacy.
