“We have sold around 2.5 lakh devices in three years' time and are expecting to double this number in the next 12 to 18 months' time-frame,” said Manish Sharma, vice-president, Asia Pacific, NComputing, at the launch of its new new product, L300 thin client access device, here on Tuesday.

Though the company is targeting all the segments in IT and ITeS, it expects most of the business come from education and SME, said Sharma.

“Our new product is priced at Rs 9500 and has 10 years' lifetime. There is no moving part in L300 and hence the cost of maintenance is very low. If you see any desktop, only 10 per cent of its capacity is used by any organization. By connecting it with NComputing device, you can connect additional users to work using computing power of one main computer. Hence every unit of NComputing device helps an enterprise in saving cost,” said Sharma.

NComputing, which is planning to expand its business in India, claims that L300 would need only 5 watts to run and total load with connected monitor and keyboard to it would go up to 40 watts, which is low compared to 110 watts of power required by any desktop.

“Hence there is saving in the cost of power. Apart from this, desktops are either replaced or upgraded annually. NComputing devices take off this load from enterprises. In case our devices are being used, then only the main computer needs to be changed, replaced or maintained as additional users connected to it use the same resource,” explained Sharma.

Sharma added that 10-year lifetime of products like L300 would save enterprises from spending in annual maintenance cost of multiple units.
