MUMBAI, INDIA: NASSCOM Foundation, the social development arm of NASSCOM, which works towards galvanizing the corporate social responsibility (CSR) space in the IT industry in India, in association with Genpact, today announced the winners of its second annual NASSCOM social innovation honors 2010.
The honors were given to deserving projects that strive to bring about social change and development through technology at the NASSCOM India Leadership Summit 2010, said a media release.
Judges who chose the winners include Narayana Murthy, founder-chairman, Infosys Technologies; T. N. Ninan, chairman and editorial director, Business Standard; Rama Bijapurkar, independent market strategy consultant; Jaithirth (Jerry) Rao, chairman, NASSCOM Foundation and Saurabh Srivastava Trustee, NASSCOM Foundation.
Jerry Rao said, "Recognizing the role of ICT in sustainable development, NASSCOM Foundation instituted the NASSCOM social innovation honors (NSIH) in 2009 with the objective of nurturing and showcasing innovation in the use of technology that brings about positive and sustainable social change. We are glad with the quality of the projects being submitted for this recognition".
The list of winners in various categories are:
ICT-led innovation by non-profits: Health Management and Research Institute
ICT-led innovation through corporate social responsibility: Iris Business Services Pvt. Ltd., Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited, Steria (India) Limited and ITC Limited
ICT-led business innovation for development: Educomp Solutions Ltd., Geodesic Ltd. and TATA Consultancy Services
ICT led e-governance innovation: District Administration of Kolhapur, District Health Society of Baghpat and JP Nagar - U.P, Information & Public Relations Department - Orissa and Jhansi Jan Suvidha Kendra in Jhansi - U.P
Multi stakeholder partnership: Ekgaon Technologies Pvt. Ltd. and Swanchetan Society for Mental Health
Environment: India Water Portal, Peer Water Exchange(PWX)
The criteria for participation were: a) The organizations should be registered in India or a foreign entity with a registered presence in India, b) The innovation must benefit India, or a community in India and, c) The organization should be in existence in India for a minimum of one year, said the foundation.
