Nasscom signs MoU with Taiwan

MUMBAI: Nasscom has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Information Industry (III) of Taiwan to increase trade and cooperation in the IT software and services sector.



As a part of the MoU, Nasscom plans to establish a Joint Council for Cooperation by 2005, which would comprise of representatives from not only, the IT industry but also institutes, organizations and academic community related to ICT.





Speaking on the occasion, Kiran Karnik, president, Nasscom said, "the cooperation will focus in sectors where mutually beneficial results can be achieved, particularly in the area of embedded software and manufacturing. And also encourage technology collaboration and talent exchange in the domain of chip designing and product development."





With Taiwan, being the manufacturing hub and India an offshore destination for IT services, the MoU will take mutually advantageous opportunities in sectors such as BFSI, securities, telecom, energy and utilities for systems integration exist for both the countries.



G J Huang, executive vice president, Institute of Information Industry (III), who signed the MoU noted, "Taiwan's public and private sector have been aware of the opportunities in Indian ICT sector. Our ICT companies are keen to cooperate with the Indian partners to explore business opportunities around the world. With the well established infrastructure and competitive advantages of both sides, we are confident that our collaboration will soon bear fruits."
