BANGALORE: Nasscom, in association with CII and MAIT is set to host an
international seminar-cum-exhibition to showcase India’s prowess in the field
of Information Technology. The event, which will be held between Feb 6 - Feb 9,
2002, will be the first instance wherein the industry’s premier associations
will be hosting a joint event that will bring all the sections of the IT
industry on one single platform.
The three associations have signed a MoU to organize this event annually and
to make this India’s largest IT show. This will be held in conjunction with
Nasscom 2002 Annual Conference. According to Nasscom chairman Phiroz Vandrevala,
over the years, the Nasscom annual conference and exhibitions have become a
popular platform for the Indian IT Industry.
With IT slowly playing a major role in chalking out business strategies in
the corporate world, the need has arisen to have a single platform for
interaction between various sections of the IT industry and business
establishments. Since CII and MAIT being the leaders in their own segments they
were the natural choice as partners to co-host such an event, he added.
MAIT president Vinay Deshpande said, the event will position India not only
as a leading sourcing base for software, hardware, designs and technologies but
also as one of the most ‘happening’ IT markets. This is in tune with our
common objective of developing India into an IT superpower, he added.
CII president Sanjiv Goenka said the event, for the first time, will harness
the strength of the CII, Nasscom and MAIT in the areas of user industry,
software & services and hardware sectors. This in turn will provide a
comprehensive platform to industry as a whole, he said.
The partnership between CII, Nasscom and MAIT has come at a time when the
Indian industry is increasingly looking at means to adopt state-of-the-art IT
tools to have a competitive edge in the global market and is focussing on the
domestic market to supplement its revenues. This move hopefully will create a
win-win situation for the IT sector and the user industry, said Goenka.
Elaborating on the MoU, Vandrevala said the secretariat for the event would
be housed in Nasscom’s office in New Delhi. A steering group with nominated
representatives from Nasscom, CII and MAIT will supervise and provide broad
directions for the organization of the event while a working group representing
the secretariat of the three associations will be formed to manage the
day-to-day operations, he said.
