Nasscom inks MoU with IT Association of Canada

NEW DELHI: Nasscom, the premier chamber of commerce for software and services industry in India has announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ITAC - Information Technology Association of Canada.

The objective is to encourage exchange of information and knowledge about an array of issues pertinent to the industry.

The committee aims to meet twice a year to discuss areas of common interest. It is also anticipated that the committee will undertake joint activities including conferences and research projects to advance the understanding by the business communities and the potential business opportunities in India and Canada.

A joint ITAC/Nasscom committee comprising senior officials from Indian and Canadian information technology companies will manage the agreement.

S. Ramadorai, chairman, Nasscom, and CEO, TCS, said, “The Indian ICT sector is keen to learn from Canada on the effective deployment of ICT solutions within their country and also forge partnerships with Canadian companies as a near shore destination for the North American market”.

The first joint event undertaken by ITAC and Nasscom will be a conference on the global division of knowledge work is scheduled in Toronto on November 14, 2005. Nasscom will conduct a major international conference from February, 15-17, 2006 at Mumbai. A delegation from Canada is expected to participate in this conference.

“India is emerging as a vital contributor to the global landscape in information and communications technology,” said Brian McFadden, vice-chair of ITAC. “Nortel has a significant and growing presence in India. We believe that forging closer ties with our peers in India will alert the ICT industry to the many opportunities that the nation offers.”
