Talking to CyberMedia News here, KT Sukhalu, secretary of department of information technology (ITTE) said the idea was to set up a state-of-the-art IT Township in Nagaland.

“We are evaluating a proposal for setting up an exclusive IT Township as the work in the IT industry might go on even if there is an imminent strike in the state. We are seeing the viability of the township to come up at Ganesh Nagar Industrial Growth Center, which is a commercial hub,” he informed.

Indications are that the township will have housing facilities apart from all the requirements for the IT industry, especially for the BPOs and KPOs. The state government is keen on inviting the ITeS sector to establish a base in Nagaland, as the BPO/ KPO industry employees a significant number of people from the north-eastern region. The proposal if implemented will witness a tremendous employability opportunity for youth living there.

The state government is also planning to offer tax holidays for the IT industry, over and above the sops offered in the North-East Industrial Investment Policy (NEIPP) 2007, which was released by the Ministry for Development of North-Eastern Region in April this year. The announcements made in the NEIPP 2007 will come into effect from this month.
