BANGALORE: Practice what you preach- outsourcing companies are asked to outsource, not sub-contract their work but outsource work like infrastructure and facilities management. This would help them bring in operational profitability, significantly. The telecom infrastructure landscape is also poised to change over the coming years with lot more service providers entering the arena and thereby increasing the coverage across the country.

Other practices in the BPO space that are expected to emerge are ITeS specific products such as billing for voice per minute, single end billing and end to end service level agreements in the telecom infrastructure space. These points and more were the outcome of the last session of the two-day Nasscom’s ITeS-BPO Strategy Summit covering the topic infrastructure and facilities management.

According to Manish Kashyap who heads the corporate services and transaction management group in CB Richard Ellis South Asia, infrastructure management for the BPO sector is booming, thanks to the phenomenal growth that the BPO sector itself is witnessing. "Most of the companies set up shop in commercial complexes, technology parks, business houses, expecting world class services.

But what they don’t want to do is add cost to infrastructure operations, which includes power, maintenance of the buildings, connectivity, other value added services such as food for the employees, free car parks, not to be rented for unoccupied space but make the space available for ramp up plans," commented Kashyap.

Although there are two ways for connectivity, satellite and fiber, for the BPO sector, fiber is suggested for the robustness it provides. "With more and more service providers entering the fray, the services are expected to just get better. More carriers and increased coverage across the country is just serving the purpose for the companies who are expanding across the landscape of the nation," said Mukul Sharma, Head-ITES Group, Tata Indicom-Enterprise Business Unit.
