His interim replacement is Nick Lehman, executive vice president of MTVN

Digital.

Hirschhorn, who will stay on through the summer to ease the transition,

spearheaded MTV's digital media business and interactive strategy aimed at

reaching audiences via the Internet and mobile devices. Such interactive

businesses are key growth areas for MTV and Viacom.

Among the new products Hirschhorn helped develop was the digital music

service Urge -- from MTV and Microsoft Corp.

His departure comes just weeks after MTV touted its Internet strategies to

advertisers during the television upfront presentations.

MTV spokesman David Bittler said Hirschhorn's departure came when the

company's digital strategy was integrated into all of its brands.

"That's part of the reason he felt he could leave at this time,"

said Bittler.

Hirschhorn's new venture has not been disclosed.
