MTS launches smartphone for Rs 4999

NEW DELHI, INDIA: MTS India, the CDMA mobile telephony service from Sistema Shyam Teleservices Ltd (SSTL), today launched smartphones in the price range of Rs.4,999 and Rs.13,500.

MTS smartphones are the most competitive and fully loaded devices which will set a benchmark in the industry with the 3G capabilities, said Vsevolod Rozanov, president and CEO of the company, while launching 3 models of the smartphones here.

“I am confident that these smartphones will take smartphone services in India to a new level ensuring further expansion of our subscribers in india,” he said.

The three models launched today are — Buzz, Alive and Ivory.

Buzz is the cheapest among three smartphones, priced at Rs.4,999. It offers social networking sites such as facebook and twitter along with QWERTY keyboard and expandable memory upto 4GB.

Alive, priced at Rs.6,000, has an in-built Opera Mini Browser. Ivory costs Rs.13,500 and offers access to 60 mobile TV channels along with microsoft exchange push mail access to facebook, twitter and orkut.

MTS said that Ivory has broadband Internet access with speeds up to 3.1Mbps. Ivory can access MTS TV featuring up to 60 channels, and has a 3.2 inch WQVGA full touch screen for mobile TV experience. This model also features Microsoft exchange push mail access to Facebook, Twitter, Orkut, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, GTlak, Picasa, Crininfo and many more. It is Wi-FI enabled with 2 MP camera, Bluetooth and expandable memory up to 4GB. This phone has been priced around Rs 14000.

MTS is sourcing Ivory from Micromax, Buzz from ZTE and Alive from Fly.

Rozanov mentioned that the company has its presence in 12 circles and will be adding three more new circles by the end of this year — namely UP (West), UP (East) and Gujarat.

SSTL has also finalized vendors for network managed services and will be announcing the same by the end of this week.
