NEW DELHI: MTNL will soon launch the facility of getting emails read on phone. The service will be launched by the Value Added Service (VAS) wing of the Corporation in collaboration with its basic service operations. While the pricing structure is under consideration, the service is likely to be priced at the same price slab as its basic operations. The initiative has been taken in order to tap those customers who do not own a PC and use the cyber cafe instead.

The revenue expectation from the service is not expected to make any substantial difference to the company. However, the service would achieve another milestone in MTNL's commitment to reach out to the people at large, pointed out MC Chaube, GM, VAS. And it is in line with MTNL’s recently launched Internet Express service which is a post-paid Calling Line Identification based (CLI).

MTNL has a total of 25,000 Internet subscribers of which the company claims to have acquired an additional 1.25 lakh customer with the introduction of this service. MTNL subscribers can simply log into its Internet services by using its telephone number as the log in identity and the billing would be done as per the usage of Internet hours by the subscriber. The billing is a nominal 10 paise per minute. There are two advantages here- one, the subscriber gets a consolidated billing and two, the Internet subscriber is freed of the time duration within which to use the Internet time when brought as a pre-paid kit.

The company has launched two cards, the green and the blue card. While the green card is the downloadable browser, which can be assessed at www.anmol.bol.net.in, the blue card comes with a browser-based dialer. The rates offered to US, UK, Canada and Australia is Rs 24 per min. In the future, MTNL may also offer post-paid Internet telephony facilities.
