MTC to help computerize Punjab’s Tax department

NEW DELHI: MTC (India), the Indian subsidiary of MTC International, a $125

million group based in the United States, has been given the task of

computerizing the Tax Department of Punjab in a year, making Punjab State the

first state in the country to have a fully computerized Taxation System. The

State Government has earmarked Rs 7-8 crore for the computerization process.

MTC is hoping to demonstrate this system as a Model System for the other

states. MTC will provide training to the 1300 employees of the department on the

use of computerized system. Once the process is in place, the 218 offices and 27

information collection centers will be computerized at the interstate borders of

Punjab and inter linked through communication network. This will make the

registration of the dealers, filing of returns and getting information about

arrears etc. much m ore easier for the genuine tax payer. It will also help the

department exchange information, cross verify sales and detect defaulters.

MTC, with years of worldwide experience and expertise which provides ‘Full

Life Cycle Support’ to customers for their IT requirements, has over 150

competent and dedicated team of software professionals at their Noida

Development Centre, the only offshore development center of MTC International

outside the US. Set up at an investment of $1 million, the center for excellence

is spread over 14,000 square feet. MTC (India) is also holding talks with a

Belgian company for making products in the area of secured business transactions

on the Net.
